I am fascinated by the lemurs of MadagascarIn particular, I'm fascinated by the diversity of species, the history of lemur origins, and the specialized strategies that allow lemurs to thrive under diverse conditions.

I am committed to team science & conservationWe produce our best work when diverse perspectives are equally valued, including those that emanate from different cultures, professional disciplines, and career stages.

My research and collaborations are centered on various mechanisms that facilitate ecological adaptation and flexibility in lemurs, most notably the gut microbiome. Via their metabolic versatility, gut microbes perform numerous functions for their hosts, many of which enable animals to do things they couldn't do otherwise. I also collaborate on projects focused on lemur hibernation, biogeography, health, behavior, metabolomics, genetics and genomics.
For students:
I enjoy mentoring and co-mentoring American and Malagasy students on lemur science and conservation projects. If you've got an idea for a lemur project or would like to assist on ongoing projects, please contact me at [email protected]

Prior to discovering lemur gut microbes, I studied:
The skin and scent-gland microbiomes in lemurs and meerkats
Mechanisms of female dominance and reproductive skew in wild meerkats
Olfactory communication in Coquerel's sifakas
Olfactory signal and endocrine correlates in binturongs
Mechanisms of behavior in neonate spotted hyenas
